20,000 Redskins Fans Show up on Fan Appreciation Day; Recap Day 9

The Washington Redskins held their annual “Fan Appreciation Day” event in Richmond Virginia on Saturday, 20,477 people showed up. Keep in mind a “draft lottery” process was used this year and storms were over the Richmond area, so it’s unknown just how many fans wanted to come out.

Quotes from the day:

“It’s a different style,” Bruce Allen said. “Each coach and each team takes on the personality of its coach and Jay has been very involved with the guys. His evening meetings really set the tone for the next day’s work.”  – Bruce Allen

“I’ve had a lot of big plays in my career,” Robinson said. “I had a one catch game for 68 yards and one touchdown. It’s not a bad stat, but it’s all you see. You don’t see hitches and slants. You see it in the preseason, but during the season you really don’t see it.

“But you know, I’ll just continue to work and when I get my chance to be an all-around receiver, I’ll do that.”

“I work on my speed all the time. Being a speed guy I never stop working on my speed, because I feel like I can always get faster. Every year I try to get faster and better at everything.”Aldrick Robinson

“You guys going to be loud this year or what?” Gruden said with a smile as he addressed the crowd before practice. “We need you badly. I believe the sky’s the limit for this team and this organization and we can’t do this without you all. We thank you for your support and we can’t wait until gameday.” – Jay Gruden

“We have a defense this year that’s more tailored to our strengths, and that’s going to make us more effective.” – Barry Cofield

“Coach Haslett is putting us in there, giving us advantages out there on the field so we can really get after it. We’ve got more freedom now. We’re going to be more aggressive. We’re going to dictate. We like where we’re headed.” – Brian Orakpo

“Your two best players on your defense are supposed to be your outside linebackers. And that’s why we drafted another one, and they’re supposed to get to the quarterback, so, let them do what they do best. That’s rush. We’ll drop them once and a while, but it won’t be like we’ve done in the past. We’ll give them more freeway to rush and come underneath — just trying to take advantage of what they do best.” – Jim Haslett
