Pierre Garçon said if he emerges from Saturday’s walkthrough unscathed, he intends to suit up 24 hours later against the Eagles. It would be the first game action for the Redskins’ top wide out since Oct. 7. “I feel all right,” he said after Friday’s practice at Redskins Park. “I should be good to go on Sunday. I’ll see how I feel [Saturday], and I should be out there giving it all I got [against the Eagles].”

I do like Alfred Morris to have a good game. The Eagles have not allowed a 100-yard rusher, but let’s not throw confetti and call them a great run-stopping defense. They allow 4.2 yards per carry and a number of backs have had strong games vs. them – six have gained at least 60 yards and in each case they’ve averaged at least 4.4 yards per carry. The reason no back has rushed for more than 100 yards is that only one back, Atlanta’s Michael Turner, has carried more than 19 times against them.

Mike Shanahan has repeatedly said that he is rebuilding the Redskins “the right way” as opposed to doing a quick fix. But at some point, the rebuilding need to bear some fruit in the form of wins. That point has arrived. The Redskins do not need to go on a run and make the playoffs. But they can’t lose to an Eagles team that is in disarray. They need to be competitive in Dallas on Thanksgiving. They can’t let a team like the Browns start feeling better at their expense. The Giants and Ravens at least need to be pushed to the limits by the Redskins.

It all adds up to the Redskins being ranked third in the NFL in terms of yards gained with 1687 while the Falcons are 15th with 1461 yards. The Falcons have faced tougher defenses in terms of yards given up in their four games than have the Redskins. Atlanta’s offense has gone up against three defenses ranked 13th or better and the Redskins have faced three that are 19th or worse including the 30th- and 32nd-ranked units.

Morris has only one speed
“Alfred is very conscientious,” offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said Thursday. “He never feels like he’s arrived. He’s working every day in practice [and] walkthroughs.” Shanahan added: “He only goes one speed. We try to slow him down in walkthrough [because] he’s running as hard as he can.”

Prior to the scoring change, Griffin was credited with 252 rushing yards, the most any Redskins rookie quarterback has had in a season. They haven’t even enjoyed an extended period of competence at the most important position in sports. They have settled for a good season here, a nice stretch of games there.
