Brian Orakpo has Torn Pectoral Muscle, Out for the Season

The Washington Redskins fears about Brian Orakpo’s right pectoral muscle proved to be true after taking an MRI on Monday.

According to multiple reports Orakpo has a torn pectoral muscle which will need surgery, ending his 2014 season.

Orakpo injured himself Sunday while attempting to tackle Tennessee running back Bishop Sankey on the Titans second play of the fourth quarter.

He has suffered two torn pectoral muscles in the past, but both on the left side. Orakpo was not having the season he or the Redskins had hoped for, with only a half-sack during a contract year.

Moving forward the future is murky at best for the guy who was tagged “franchise player” this year ($11 million dollar price tag) but now has finished 3 out of 4 season’s on the IR.

Rookie Trent Murphy will have to step into Orakpo’s spot. Defensive end Jason Hatcher seems to think it’s a role Murphy is ready for.

“Murphy’s ready to go,” Hatcher said. “He’s been waiting on his opportunity, and I think he’ll do well. I’ll support him, and be a big brother to him, and help him get after the quarterback.”
