The Washington Redskins defensive line got a little bit deeper Monday. According to multiple sources the team signed veteran nose tackle Jerrell Powe.

Powe (6-2, 331 lbs) played in 16 games with the Houston Texans last season, starting three. Before his stint in Houston Powe spent his first three years in the league with Kansas City, who picked him in the sixth round of 2011 draft.

Powe may find it difficult to get playing time with Terrance Knighton and Chris Baker ahead of him on the depth chart. The move brings more depth to the Redskins d-line and will lead to more competition at the NT position in camp.

The signing is yet another in a series of defensive line acquisitions made by new Redskins GM Scot McCloughan. Powe will join Knighton, Stephen Paea and Ricky Jean-Francois as first-year Redskins in the defensive trenches.
