RG3 Goes to the Kentucky Derby

00rg3 1024x577 RG3 Goes to the Kentucky DerbyWashington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is literally all over the place.

Just last week he was at the White House Correspondents dinner after party, and this weekend he is at the Kentucky Derby.

This kid knows how to enjoy life, and might I add, look good while doing it.

In an interview with NBC, Griffin said he was putting “a small amount of money on ‘Palace Malice’”  the number 10 horse (22-1 odds) to win the race.

Griffin was also asked how his knee was doing in which he responded, “It’s doing great, of course everyone has seen the tape of me doing ‘jumping jacks’, I’m just taking it a day at a time.”

RG3 Thanks Redskins Fans for Coming to Draft Day Party

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III made an appearance at the 2013 Redskins Draft Day Party at FedEx Field this past Saturday and was greeting by exited Redskins fans.

RG3 decided he wanted to show the Redskins faithful just how far he had come by doing jumping jacks on stage. (That video can be seen by clicking HERE)

Griffin has fond memories from last season, “You’ve got to start with the last game against the Cowboys,” Griffin said. “Alfred Morris runs for 200 yards, does a great job. Then we go back to the game on Thanksgiving and we spanked the Cowboys.”

“We made Cowboys Stadium our home. And that’s what we want to continue to do,” he said.

“We’re having a great draft right now, and I’m all in for Week 1, just like you guys are right now,” Griffin said. “You guys saw me jumping. I mean, I can run a little bit. I’ll be good. No worries. I’ll take it slow, but in the same time, I’ll be ready to go.”

The Redskins open the season against the Philadelphia Eagles in a Monday Night Football NFC east rivalry match-up.

Joe Theismann Guarantee’s Robert Griffin III Will Start Week 1

20120923 lbm sz2 360 standard 1348579472 730 300x199 Joe Theismann Guarantees Robert Griffin III Will Start Week 1Washington Redskins great Joe Theismann is 100% sure Robert Griffin III will be ready to go week 1.

“I have full confidence in knowing that Robert is gonna be able to take care of himself and get ready to go,” Theismann told ESPN 980′s Sports Fix on Tuesday. “And he WILL be ready for the opener. I know everybody’s procrastinating on when he might be back; I guarantee it.”

“Why do you feel so confident about it?” Kevin Sheehan asked.

“I’ve been around Robert most of the off-season ” Theismann said. “I’ve seen his development, I’ve watched him work, when it comes to his rehabilitation. He started running a couple weeks ago. I mean, he’s a different man. When you’re hurt, it’s like oh gosh, I have to go through all this stuff. Even though you fight through it, mentally it’s a drain on you.

“Now, just the fact that he’s able to start to run again, it’s like turning that stallion loose in the field,” Theismann said. “ You’ve had it corralled, it’s run around a little bit, and yeah it’s fine, but then all of a sudden it gets out into the field, it kicks its heels up, and it’s like wow, this is great. And I think that’s where he is. I think he’s at a point where he’s really getting ready and chomping at the bit, and now, [head trainer] Larry [Hess] and those guys there are gonna have their hands full just to hold him down a little bit.”

“I think he’s just gonna have a sensational year,”  Joe Theismann said. “You know, he was rookie of the year last year, but I believe that he will really start to blossom and grow into a special quarterback. I see him like a Colin Kaepernick. Look at Colin in his second year, what he was able to do. And the thing that gets lost, not only the misunderstanding of what this offense is about, is how good a downfield passer he was in college and he was last year. I mean, his ability to throw the ball out of the pocket is what separates him from so many other quarterbacks, whether they’re veterans or young guys, it doesn’t matter.”

“The most important thing that Robert has to understand is that his value to this football team is when he’s playing, not when he’s on the sideline, and I believe he does,” Theismann also said. “You can’t take away that asset that I think creates such a big problem for other people, but you can be wiser with it.”

Robert Griffin III in Trademark Dispute Over RG3

rg3suspension413b 150x150 Robert Griffin III in Trademark Dispute Over RG3According to The Washington Post, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is involved in a trademark dispute over the initials ”RG3.”

An off-road motorcycle racing suspension parts company that’s named Research Group 3 was started back in 1998 by Rob Henricksen and is known within their industry as RG3.

As Robert Griffin III transitioned from a promising college prospect into an established professional star, he took steps to protect his brand, filing paperwork with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the phrases “RGIII” and “RG3,” for use on “shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, pants, shorts, footwear, hats, caps, [and] athletic uniforms.”

Griffin, as it turns out, was just eight years old when Henricksen started his motorcycle parts business. But as his star rose, the company started getting e-mails and letters from fans wondering if there was a connection between the suspension business and the quarterback.

Earlier this year, the company filed an extension of time with the Trademark Office to oppose both of the quarterback’s filings. The company was granted 90 days; the extensions of time expire next week.

“We’re maintaining the status quo until we can work out a coexistence agreement,” said Catherine Holland, a California-based intellectual property lawyer with Knobbe Martens who is representing the company. “We just want to clearly delineate the rights that each party has with regard to the phrase RG3.”

Holland said the suspension company is not trying to profit off Griffin’s fame and wishes him the best on and off the field; its goal is to prevent marketplace confusion and the use of competing marks in the same sphere. And one trademark lawyer said the company’s argument might be convincing.

If Griffin ends up losing this case, he’ll lose millions of dollars due to fact that he won’t be able to make any money off of the initials, RG3.

Pierre Garcon Talks About his Injury,RG3 and Kirk Cousins

Garconfangs 150x150 Pierre Garcon Talks About his Injury,RG3 and Kirk CousinsWashington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon was on NFL AM on Thursday morning and was asked:

You played with Peyton Manning, now you have played with Robert Griffin III. Similarities? Differences? And do you think Robert can be as prolific, or as good as Peyton Manning?

Garcon replied:  “He can be just as good as Peyton. Peyton is very skilled with his arm, but Robert is skilled with his arm and his legs and that’s what makes him more dynamic and more dangerous. They are very similar, quarterbacks are natural  leaders, they take control of the huddle and in meetings and communicate with offensive lineman as well as receivers and running backs.

They are both good but Robert’s gonna be really good…just as good as Peyton.” Kinda sounded like Pierre stopped just short of saying RG3 will be better, Peyton and him are still close friends.

Asked about RG3′s injury, he responded with “We want him back for week one, but we don’t want him to push too hard, he’s going to have a great future and a long career. He’s gotta do what’s right for him. He’s been through the fire, now he understands it.”

Garcon went on to say about his injury “I’ll (Garcon) be healthy enough to play. I can’t say I will be 100%, but I will be back out there. I will be rehabbing and doing whatever the trainers let me do. We won’t try to win a Superbowl in April or anything. We will just try to move ahead.”

Asked how might things be different with Kirk Cousins in the huddle, he responded with “It certainly will be different because Kirk is a pocket quarterback, with Robert we have to keep our heads on a swivel and always alert cause the play is never dead, he’s always looking to get that extra yard or extra throw and extend the play as much as he can. But with Kirk we are going to just have to what we can, he can scramble out of the pocket some if he has too but he will do a great job for us.”

When asked about the Redskins record when he is on the field he responded with “It was nothing I did in particular, it was more coach Shanahan, Mike and Kyle, called great plays and I just did my part. They brought me over her to make plays and win and that’s what I take pride in doing. It’s all up to the coaches to call the plays. Without Robert and Alfred there is no 9-1, the offensive line, the running backs, we need everything. We have a great, young offense and a young team to challenge the NFL. Fred led the team in receiving a year ago,  Alfred is a 1600 yard back,  Robert is a Pro Bowl quarterback,  I’ll  just fit in where ever I can. We are itching at the top of the NFL and we think we have that potential, we are young too.”

RG3 had the top Selling Jersey of All-Time in 2012-13

rg3againstdallas 150x150 RG3 had the top Selling Jersey of All Time in 2012 13Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III not only ended the year with the best selling jersey in the league, more of his No. 10 jerseys were sold in the NFL this fiscal year than any jersey in league history.

Exact sales numbers on NFLShop.com from April 1, 2012 to March 1, 2013, were not revealed by the NFL.1111 RG3 had the top Selling Jersey of All Time in 2012 13

New Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning came in second in jersey sales and sold the third most in a single year, undoubtedly boosted by the league’s new Nike apparel deal. Brett Favre’s Minnesota Vikings (2009) and New York Jets jerseys (2008) are the second and fourth best-selling jerseys in a single season.

We first reported this story back in December, but at that time had no idea of whether or not RG3 would be able to hold onto the claim of having the top sold jersey in NFL history or not.

RG3 is in the middle of one of the most media covered injury comebacks to date after injuring his knee last year, and his main sponsor, Adidas, is using him as their poster boy this year for their “All in for Week one” campaign.
