Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather will appeal his two game suspension for a hit on Torrie Smith in last Saturday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens according to coach Jay Gruden. The Redskins safety is hoping to have his suspension reduced.
Gruden said Meriweather will appeal the two-game suspension in the hopes of getting it reduced.

DeAngelo Hall had this to say yesterday in regards to Meriweather, “Keep hitting. I’ll pay the fine.”
Ravens receiver Torrie Smith, who is the player Meriweather hit, came out Monday on Twitter and had this to say:
@plaxicoburress @Bmeriweather31 @NFL I don’t think he should be suspended…but I don’t make or enforce the rules…I just play

DeAngelo Hall had something else to say to the league itself on twitter:
@nfl how do you adjust your target on a person who keeps changing there strike zone. My guy aim low and the WR lowered his head

Have to say Hall has a good question. If a defender is supposed to aim low but the ball-carrier drops his head, how is the defender at fault…just what can he do in that situation? Lots of grey areas with this rule and each year they get tighter on calling it.
This is Meriweather’s 6th infraction of the league rules against hits on defenseless players. Last year Meriweather had a two-game suspension for a hit on Chicago Bear receiver Alshon Jeffery reduced to one-game.
