Commanders News Links: Jacoby Brissett Named Starter; Former Snyder Partner Sues Bank of America
Here is Wednesday’s collection of Washington Commanders news links from around the internet. Each bullet point has a link at the beginning and then an excerpt from the story (if available). Enjoy!
Rothman sues Bank of America, others over Commanders sale – ESPN Robert Rothman, the Tampa, Florida, billionaire who is chairman and CEO of Black Diamond Capital, alleges that Bank of America, along with Snyder and NFL officials, who are not named defendants in the lawsuit, “conspired” to force him and his two fellow minority partners to sell their 40 percent stake to Snyder for $875 million in April 2021. The sale price reflected a team valuation of less than $3 billion, the lawsuit says. In July 2023, Snyder sold the Commanders for $6.05 billion, which the lawsuit claims “was the culmination of (Bank of America’s) and Snyder’s conspiratorial conduct.”
SNIDER: Commanders exhale on the way out the door The clown show has two last acts, neither of which looks to be pretty. The changing of passers is simply another smoke-and-broken-mirrors move to distract fans for a hot minute.
2023 In Review: How the Commanders Franchise Changed Hands The franchise had languished for two-plus decades under Dan Snyder, but the embattled owner still sought as much as $7 billion for a team whose on-field results mirrored the state of the Commanders’ franchise.
Commanders bench Sam Howell; Jacoby Brissett to start Sunday – ESPN “This is part of the growth,” Rivera said. “We’re all culpable in this situation, too. This is not an indictment on Sam or how my feelings toward Sam have changed. I really do think this guy can be a really good quarterback in this league, I really do. I also think sometimes, when things get tough and get hard … this has been a long year for everybody. This is a chance for him to take a breath.”
A wishlist for Washington’s next General Manager – Hogs Haven Unless Washington really screws things up against the 49ers and Cowboys in the next couple of weeks, they’re likely to end up with a top-three draft pick in 2024. I like to say Ron Rivera’s “original sin” in Washington was getting Dan Snyder to agree to give him full control over football operations and then deciding to stick with Dwayne Haskins when he had the #2 overall pick in 2020.
