Washington Redskins second-year receiver Kelvin Harmon revealed via social media Tuesday that he tore his ACL sometime last month and recently had surgery. Harmon will miss the entire 2020 NFL season as he recovers.
This one stings a bit for Washington, as the franchise was set to use Harmon in an expanded role in 2020 after starting eight games in 2019. Harmon, who will turn 23 in December, is already geared towards his comeback.
Harmon was a sixth-round draft pick in 2019 out of N.C. State. Last season he was targeted 44 times, had 30 receptions with 365 yards, and no touchdowns in his rookie season. During this offseason, Harmon had routinely worked out with fellow second-year players quarterback Dwayne Haskins and receivers Steven Sims Jr and Terry McLaurin. The idea was that the three would be the top targets for Washington heading into the 2020 season. Now the team will have to look to backup options like rookie Antonio Gandy-Golden to fill the role as someone eventually emerges from the pack of young and unproven receivers the team currently has on the roster.
