After Loss to Detroit, Vikings Look to Redskins Matchup

The Minnesota Vikings have a decent enough record at this point in the season; certainly, their fans would have been happier with an undefeated run, but those are difficult to come by these days. And as things stand, the Super Bowl odds are not very clear when it comes to their match against the Redskins.

The Redskins are looking to compound upon their previous successes by marching into the playoffs; if they succeed, it will be their second straight season going to the playoffs.

The second half of the season is here.

This is the only opportunity many teams will have to turn the year around; some teams just need to gain momentum by winning big. And the Redskins will have their work cut out for them taking on the Vikings in a contentious Week 10 matchup.

It is easy to see why the Redskins might choose to go into this match with a little bit of confidence. With their 5-3 record, the Vikings are basically in the middle of the competitive race in the NFC. They have a lot riding on the next few games.

It will take a lot of mental fortitude and stamina to not only maintain their position but to improve their record. The Vikings chances of overcoming the Redskins will be made that much harder by the fact that Minnesota lost to the Detroit Lions in overtime on Sunday.

Losses of that sort tend to demoralize football players, leaving them in a less capable, less confident mindset. The game was important for the Vikings who needed to approach the second half of the season in as high a gear as possible. Losing 22-16 was hardly the outcome they had in mind, and now they have to take on the Redskins next Sunday at the FedEx Field.

Sam Bradford was supposed to save the Vikings this season; Minnesota lost Teddy Bridgewater in August. The Knee injury he suffered pretty much counted him out for the rest of the season.

There were a lot of criticisms surrounding the Vikings’ decision to bring Sam Bradford onboard from the Eagles at the cost of a future first-round pick. Sam Bradford first began playing for the Vikings in Week 2, with Shaun Hill playing the role of quarterback in Week 1 (during which the Vikings beat the Tennessee titans).

Bradford performed well enough, especially considering the timing of his arrival; his touchdown to interception ratio has actually been quite impressive; it could be argued that Bradford played better in the first few weeks of this season than what he manifested in previous seasons.

However, Bradford hasn’t been nearly as consistent as his fans might have hoped; in fact, the Vikings have struggled to maintain their form, and it wasn’t simply because a knee injury forced Adrian Peterson off the field.

The Vikings have no reason to feel confident as they walk into the Sunday game against the Redskins. Their statistics leave a lot to be desired. They are hardly the worst team in the league at the moment, and they have seen a lot of success.

None the less, their games leave a lot to be desired. For the moment, their productive defensive unit is helping them remain afloat.
