Mark Rypien to be Inducted Into the Redskins Ring of Fame

Washington Redskins legend Mark Rypien will be inducted into the Redskins Ring of Fame as the 46th member during halftime of the October 19th game against the Tennessee Titans at FedEx Field (Homecoming).

Mark Rypien to be Inducted

Rypien played for the Redskins for six years (1988-93), throwing for 15,928 yards and 115 touchdowns in the burgundy and gold. Rypien had a 5-2 playoff record with the Redskins and is the only Redskins quarterback that has two Superbowl rings; he was a backup on the 1989 Redskins and was the starter for the 1991 team. Rypien was also the MVP of Superbowl XXVI. He deserves the honor and is receptive to just what it means to be included in that group of legends.

Rypien spoke about the honor at the Washington Redskins 53rd Annual Welcome Home Luncheon on Friday, an event that also marked the 16th anniversary of the death of his three-year-old son Andrew, who died of a brain tumor in 1998.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for picking my spirits up. I’ll remember this day forever.

One person isn’t going to carry a team, but it definitely was a great era and very humbled, very honored to be part of the names that are up there. Going into the stadium and seeing all these names, I realize the magnitude of what this day is for me. Wow. This is great. When they hoist that name up there, there are 52 other guys who are just as deserving. I’m very fortunate to have played with that group of guys.”
