Meet the DC Sports Artist

Today we want to take a chance to bring some attention to a local sports artist in the DC area. The man we speak of is Paul Nichols, or the “DC Sports Artist as he calls himself on Twitter.

Paul got his start doing sports art back in 2008 when he did a big Alex Ovechkin caricature and it just took off from there. Nichols is known for doing sketches during games, often giving the pieces away to his followers. He donated four pieces of Capitols caricatures to the Green Turtle down at the Verizon Center. The four pieces are hanging directly behind the bar at the Green Turtle right when you walk in.

Nichols has found that interest in his Redskins art-work far outweighs anything he’s seen with his Caps and Nationals stuff.

Here are a couple of his Redskins pieces

It’s only a matter of opinion, but our favorite pieces of Redskins artwork by Paul are the footballs he paints. The first Sean Taylor ball pictured is currently a part of my personal collection now and to be honest, I’m eye-balling the new one he did already as well.

Here are a few of the hand-painted Redskins balls.

Redskins baseballs anyone?

Paul’s website is full of DC Sports-team paintings and sketches. It truly is a place for DC Sports fans to discover their inner-love for art or perhaps find that perfect gift for the upcoming holiday season.
