The Washington Redskins have fired head coach Mike Shanahan and his staff after his team finished the season 3-13 on Sunday . The news came out early Monday morning via the Washington Post’s Mike Jones.

Shanahan told his staff briefly informing them he spoke with Snyder and has been fired.

In four years as the head coach Shanahan finished with a combined 24-40 record, including 3-13 this year after losing the final eight games in a row. That four season combined total record puts Shanahan 16 games below 500 in his time in DC, or a full season of losses. The thirteen losses the Redskins endured in 2013 matched a franchise high. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder had this to say:

We will focus on what it takes to build a winning team, and my pledge to this organization and to this community is to continue to commit the resources and talent necessary to put this team back in the playoffs.
