Washington Redskins tight end Niles Paul spent most of his offseason packing on the muscle in anticipation of a larger role in 2015. Those hopes came to a crashing stand-still Thursday night as Paul went down early in the Browns vs Redskins preseason game.
Paul appeared to roll his leg/ankle awkwardly and was immediately placed in an air-cast and carted off the field.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Paul suffered a dislocated ankle.
The Redskins were already thin at tight-end with Logan Paulsen perhaps needing ankle surgery and Jordan Reed still nursing a sore hamstring.
Even though Paul has been progressing at tight end the past few seasons, losing him will really be felt most on special teams. Paul has become a mainstay on the return teams and has been the best special teams player on a poor Redskins unit for a few seasons.
We’ll update this story as more information becomes available.
