What to Expect:
The Redskins will look to bounce back after getting dismantled on Thursday Night Football the last time they took the field. Things won’t be any easier this week as they have the defending Superbowl champion Seattle Seahawks coming to town. The Seahawks are far from unbeatable, but it will take the perfect storm of game-planning and execution for the Redskins to have any chance in this game.
First and foremost the Redskins have to establish the running game, Alfred Morris must play a major role in this game. So far this season Jay Gruden has under-used Morris is almost every aspect of the word. Seattle is not a team you come out and throw the ball 40-50 times a game and be successful against. On offense the Redskins will have to take advantage of what Seattle gives them. Generally dynamic tight-ends give the Seahawks a little bit of an issue. With that in mind it’s unknown if Jordan Reed will play, Gruden said he as “50-50”, so who knows about him. The Redskins also have Niles Paul, who cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol testing procedure earlier this week, they will look to Niles early and often.
Defensively the Redskins will look to keep talented receiver Percy Harvin under control. The Redskins have a massive hole in the secondary created by DeAngelo Hall going out with an Achilles injury so the task of locking down Harvin will go to second year corner David Amerson. The Redskins will also have to find a way to limit Marshawn Lynch coming out of the backfield for Seattle.
While the Redskins have done well against the run this year, Lynch can single handily ruin a defense. The Redskins will have to hope the long rest will aid in the defenses over-all play. Th Seahawks have a good game-managing mobile quarterback in Russell Wilson. Wilson is extremely good at not turning the ball over. In order for the Redskins to have any chance at all they must put pressure on Wilson and force him to make bad decisions. While I don’t expect the Redskins to find their receivers behind coverage much, they do have a speed advantage on the outside.
