The Washington Redskins opened the 2014 NFL preseason playing host to the New England Patriots on Thursday night. The Patriots were without Tom Brady, and the Redskins were without DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. The outcome had Washington winning a meaningless game but showed a lot of bright spots for the Redskins.
Robert Griffin III only played on one drive going 2-4 with 9 yards (neither in-completion was his fault). Had Aldrick Robinson drug his second foot instead of placing his hand out of bounds in the endzone, that first drive would have ended with a touchdown. The offense was efficient and sharp, focusing on running the ball. They did have some issues once getting in the red zone, but it’s only the first preseason game, with plenty of time to correct those issues. The offensive line looked good.
Lache Seastrunk was impressive in the small amount of time he spent on the field; the kid has some impressive speed cuts; it’s going to be interesting just how many runningbacks the Redskins keep on the 53-man roster this year.
The Redskins defense controlled the line of scrimmage the entire game, which is a good sign. Brain Orakpo recorded a sack, and Akeem Jordan recovered a fumble.
Our full observations post will be up tomorrow after we get a chance to view the game replay, so we can have a more in-depth review.
