The Washington Redskins activated defensive tackle Barry Cofield on Tuesday. In order to make room for Cofield the team waived linebacker Jackson Jeffcoat.
Cofield spent much of the first part of the season on the physically unable to perform list (PUP). The Redskins had until Thursday to activate him.
Cofield, returns after having previously started all 49 regular season games and one postseason game in which he has played since joining the Redskins as an unrestricted free agent on July 29, 2011. The ninth-year NFL veteran has recorded 94 tackles (48 solo), 8.0 sacks, 15 passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumbles recovered as a member of the Redskins.
Jeffcoat signed to the Redskins practice squad on September 2, 2014 and was activated to the 53-man roster on October 7. He appeared in one game, making his NFL debut in a Week 7 win vs Tennessee.
