Redskins Great Joe Jacoby Named Hall of Fame Finalist
On Tuesday night the NFL announced the 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2017. Among the names was none other than Joseph Erwin Jacoby, better known as former Washington Redskins left tackle Joe Jacoby, or Big Jake to his friends. Jacoby should have been in years ago, but there’s no time like the present to make up for years of mistakes.
The undrafted University of Louisville product has been a semifinalist seven times, and was a first-time finalist last year before falling just short of enshrinement, even though most voters agreed he should be in. If Jacoby could win an award for the most times someone said “I thought he was in the hall years ago” he would have two houses full of them by now.
The two-time first-team All-Pro appeared in 170 career regular season games with 148 starts. Jacoby was selected to four straight Pro Bowls from 1983-1986 as a member of the beloved “Hogs”.
Jacoby is trying to become the 20th Washington Redskins player to be enshrined after spending his entire career with the organization.
