The Washington Redskins ended their coaching search Thursday with the hiring of former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator (since 2011) Jay Gruden.

Gruden now becomes the 8th coach hired by Redskins owner Daniel Snyder.
As it turns out, Gruden and Redskins GM/VP Football Operations Bruce Allen have a close relationship that dates back to the years they both spent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gruden was an offensive assistant in Tampa from 2002-2008.
Gruden had a bit of a storied Arena League career, he is quite possibly the best qb in the history of arena football (397 touchdowns and 99 interceptions). Gruden also has ties to defensive coordinator Jim Haslett (who was not fired when former coach Mike Shanahan was shown the door), they both coached for the UFL’s Florida Tuskers in 2009 (Haslett- head coach, Gruden – offense), losing in the championship game.
Jay Gruden brings youth (he will be 47 when the season starts next year) as well as a brilliant offensive mind with him to the Washington Redskins.
