– Quarterback Colt McCoy entered the game in the third quarter and completed 11-of-12 passes for 128 yards with one touchdown and a passer rating of 138.9.
– The Redskins held the Titans to 236 total yards, the defense’s second-best performance by yardage this season (148 versus Jacksonville in Week 2).
– The Redskins evened their all-time series record against the Titans’ franchise at 6-6. The win was the Redskins first at home against the Titans franchise since recording a 16-13 home win against the Houston Oilers on November 3, 1991.
– Colt McCoy became the first Redskins player to throw a touchdown pass on his first pass attempt with the team since wide receiver Brandon Banks threw a 49-yard touchdown pass on his only pass attempt in Washington on December 11, 2011 versus New England.
– Brain Orakpo will require surgery on his torn pectoral muscle and will miss the remainder of the 2014 season on IR.
Jay Gruden – On if Orakpo’s stinger and pectoral injuries on Sunday were related:
“They were two separate issues from what I understand, yes. He went back in the game obviously and he tried to make a tackle and did some damage to it and obviously has to have surgery. Very unfortunate for Brian, but he will bounce back, man. He is a tough guy, he is strong. Just unfortunate, I feel bad for him, and it’s a major blow to us.”
Jay Gruden – On switching between tackles Tyler Polumbus and Tom Compton:
“Tyler had a couple of plays he struggled on and Tom had put some good work in at practice. We thought that it was time to look at Tom at right tackle. He deserved an opportunity to play. We will see a little bit more of Tom, and Tyler has a little bit of a banged up knee coming into this game and it was important to get Tom out there.”
Colt McCoy – On Tennessee counting out the Redskins in the fourth quarter:
“I don’t take it personally. Their coaches are pretty smart, too. They know we’re down to a backup who’s never taken a rep… Let’s make him go in the game. It wasn’t me, it was our offense. We were efficient. We got completions, made some big plays and marched right down the field. I’m just thankful to be a part of it. I thought the plays were called great. We executed and now we’re 2-5. I hope we can create some momentum with this and move forward.”
Kirk Cousins – On moving forward from his performance today:
“Yes, every game you just have to learn from it and move forward – try not to let the mistakes repeat themselves. Sounds like a broken record and I feel like I’m saying this every week, but I’m just trying to get better every week and do the best I can. I think ultimately the turnovers have to be corrected. ”
Kai Forbath – On how it felt to get the game winner:
“It felt great. You know, we needed a win bad. Colt stepped in, put me in a great position. I mean, I couldn’t ask for better field position to kick the game winner, so hats off to our offense for getting us there.”
Pierre Garcon – On his touchdown:
“Just competing and getting more than what the play allows you to get, it added that extra spark. It’s just what I’ve always enjoyed doing – running after the catch.”
Niles Paul – On if just seeing big plays on special teams builds confidence:
“We don’t want to be the problem. We don’t want to be the issue on the team and we don’t want to go through the same thing we did last year. We want this special teams to be feared and hopefully this was a building step to it.”
