Former Redskins OL Ray Schoenke Elected to Polynesian Football Hall of Fame

The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday that former Washington Redskins offensive lineman Ray Schoenke has been selected among six inductees in the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015. Schoenke and others will be honored during Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend in Oahu, Hawai’i in January.

Schoenke, a native of Wahiawa, Hawai’i, spent 10 of his 12 NFL seasons with the Redskins from 1966-75, appearing in 122 regular season games and helping the team to its first NFC title in 1972.

“I’m very happy for my friend Ray,” Redskins Owner Dan Snyder said. “His professional accomplishments are well documented, but his commitment to our community and his commitment to its people are what make him a Hall of Famer.”

Schoenke becomes the second member of the Redskins bestowed with the honor, joining former Redskins linebacker Kurt Gouveia, who earned induction as a member of the Class of 2014. Schoenke was selected by a committee including past college football head coaches Dick Tomey (Chairman), LaVell Edwards and Ron McBride, ESPN SportsCenter anchor Neil Everett, NFL player personnel expert Gil Brandt, past NFLPA president and Inaugural Inductee Kevin Mawae and Hawai’i sportscaster Robert Kekaula.

“Ray has always demonstrated all of the traits of a winner on and off the field,” Redskins President and General Manager Bruce Allen said. “We proudly congratulate Ray on this well-deserved honor. Ho’omaika’i ‘ana!”
