According to multiple sources, the Washington Redskins have released right guard Chris Chester and corner Tracy Porter.
The move shouldn’t come as much of a shock as the Redskins made moves both in the offseason, and in the draft at both positions. The two moves will save the Redskins $6.6 million against the cap.
Chester has started every game at right guard for Washington since 2011 and was scheduled to count $4 million against the cap. His release pushes second-year guard Spencer Long (3rd round pick in 2014) into the starting role, meaning the Redskins will have a completely different right side of the offensive line in 2015. Long fits the power rushing scheme that first-year offensive line coach Bill Callahan is putting in place this offseason.
The move to release Porter comes a little late, with the players the Redskins have at the position it seems odd Porter even made it this far.
Porter played in just two games last season after signing a two-year, $6 million dollar deal. Releasing Porter will save Washington $2.2 million against the cap.
