According to multiple sources, the Washington Redskins have released outside linebacker Rob Jackson, who has been with the team since being drafted in 2008. Only Santana Moss and Kedric Golston have had a longer tenure in DC than Jackson.
Jackson has been a reserve and role player for his entire career except in 2012 when Brian Orakpo went down for the season after being injured in the second game that year. In 14 career starts Jackson recorded 4.5 sacks and four interceptions.
Most will immediately think this was the product of drafting Trent Murphy but the truth is Jackson doesn’t play on special teams, was listed as the fourth linebacker on depth chart and was outplayed in the preseason by several players including Everette Brown and Gabe Miller.
Jackson is the last player that was left on the team from the 2008 NFL draft. In other news the Redskins made some other cuts as they start to shape their roster down to 75 by August 26th.
Below is a list of the 13 other players the Redskins will release. I say 13 because Rob Jackson has already been released and tight end Matt Veldman was let go and never replaced on the 90 man roster last week.
