According to sources, the Washington Redskins have hired former 49ers and Browns Quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell. O’Connell was a quarterback for the Patriots, Lions, Jets, Dolphins, and Chargers after being drafted out of San Diego State in the third round in the 2008 draft.
The move signals that current Redskins quarterback coach Matt Cavanaugh will likely take over as the team’s newest offensive coordinator. Cavanaugh played quarterback in the NFL for 13 seasons before starting a 23-year career in coaching. The Redskins have had an opening at their coordinator position since Sean McVay took the LA Rams head coaching job earlier this month.
It was reported a few days ago that offensive line coach Bill Callahan is very happy with his role with the franchise and is not interested in any offensive coordinator role on any team.
