The Washington Redskins started the NFL’s legal tampering period today by losing left guard Ereck Flowers but added Falcons guard Wes Schweitzer as things began to settle down this afternoon.
Schweizer (6-5, 314 lbs) has started 36 games over the last three years, including seven last season. At 26 years old, he’ll be entering his fourth NFL season in 2020.
Signing Schweizer shows the Redskins want some competition at the left guard spot this year. The Redskins already have second-year players Wes Martin and Ross Pierschbacher, that look to be in the mix at the position. Martin started five games last year, while Pierschbacher spent the season backing up at the center position. The Redskins also have Chase Roullier, who has started at center for the past two seasons. Roullier can play guard as well.
One offensive line expert gave his take on Schweizer via Twitter this afternoon.
The Redskins will likely look to add more depth to their offensive line in both free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft, especially at the left tackle position. The team was reportedly still looking for a trade partner for tackle Trent Williams. Does this lead us to what exactly happens if they can’t trade him?
