The Washington Redskins will head to camp later this summer without knowing who their starter will be at strong safety. Free-safety is locked up at this point by Dashon Goldston.
Strong safety has long been a question mark for the team, which is why Jeron Johnson was signed during free agency. Not a whole lot is known about Johnson other than Seattle front office members and players love him and say Washington will as well.
Duke Ihenacho was signed last year but suffered an injury to his heel in training camp and missed the season. Both have been on successful teams in the past, Johnson in Seattle and Ihenacho in Denver and both say they will start in 2015. It’s the first bonafide position battle of the year and it’s one the coaches welcome.
At this point Ihenacho has the advantage, but that means very little as the position will be up for grabs when training camp opens.
