What to Expect:
The Redskins will have to find a way to stop the run. The Cowboys’ ability to control the time of possession using the running game is the reason their record sits at 6-1. DeMarco Murray has been unreal this season with 100 yards or more in all seven Cowboys’ games. That’s not to say to be beat the Cowboys, ‘all you have to do is stop the run’. The Redskins will also have to contain Cowboys’ QB Tony Romo.
According to reports, Colt McCoy will be the starting quarterback for the Redskins. McCoy came in for Kirk Cousins last week against the Titans and did a pretty good job in directing the Redskins to their second win of the year. All this week McCoy has been taking the majority of starting QB snaps in practice in preparation as if he was the starter.
The Redskins have been somewhat pass-happy this season and it would help the team a great deal if that were to change this week. Alfred Morris should be a major part of the game-plan especially with a third-string QB under center on the road, and in prime-time.
The biggest question may be can the Redskins effectively put pressure on Romo. With LB Brian Orakpo on the shelf for the rest of the year, the Redskins will expect more from rookie Trent Murphy. While Orakpo’s numbers in sack totals were down this year, he was still creating a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks. In will be interesting to see how the Redskins use Ryan Kerrigan. Will they keep him at his natural spot or shift him over to Orakpo’s spot?
Rookie corner Bashaud Breeland will be facing his toughest task to date as he will be lining up across from Dez Bryant. While Breeland is a physical corner, who tend to do well against Dez, he’s also a rookie who’s still learning.
