The statement reads “Roger Goodell has always had the best interests of football at heart, both on and off of the field. We are fortunate to have him as our Commissioner. The entire Washington Redskins organization strongly endorses his efforts to eradicate abuse and the independent investigation into the Ray Rice assault.”
In recent weeks NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has come under heavy attack about his handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence case.
Some reports have led the public to believe that Goodell knew of the severity of the attack in the casino elevator long before others did. In fact, some have speculated that the NFL and Goodell saw the elevator video tape long before the public ever laid eyes on it.
The NFL has denied rumors stating that they saw the tape before they decided on a two-game suspension for Rice. When the elevator tape came out earlier this week, Rice was suspended infinitely and released from his contract by the Baltimore Ravens.
The NFL announced late Wednesday that former FBI Director Robert Mueller will lead an independent inquiry into the league’s investigation and how it gathered evidence in the case.
