The Washington Redskins selected wide receiver Evan Spencer from Ohio State University with the 187th pick (6th round) of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Redskins Select WR Evan Spencer
Spencer (6-2, 208 lbs) didn’t see a lot of action last year while at Ohio State but appears to be a decent possession receiver who isn’t afraid to block when needed.
Scouts take:
Comes from a football family and plays like it. Father, Tim, is a running backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his brother is an area scout for the Redskins. Puts team first and willing to do dirty work. Will not hesitate to stick his nose in the action as run blocker. Has excellent hand-eye coordination and features generally reliable hands. Sinks hips into breaks and opens up quickly looking for the catch. Has the makings of an NFL body.
Limited college production due to Ohio State scheme and sheer volume of pass-catchers used within the offense. Primarily a possession receiver with some catch-and-run responsibilities in college, Spencer is a willing blocker with size who might have a chance to fit into a west coast offense as a backup.
WR Evan Spencer was an excellent blocker for Ohio State. Made some leaping catches, too. Fast. 1 problem: Many other weapons. #WASpick

Yes, I like Spencer. His dad, Tim, was a heck of a running back, back in the day. Also, Spencer’s brother Cole is a Redskins scout. #WASpick
