Washington Jersey History: The HTTR Genealogy Archive & Fan Vote

Every number tells a story. In the 90+ year history of Washington football, from the first days of the Braves in Boston, to the glory days of DC with the Redskins, to the new era of the Commanders, the jersey numbers on the field have become iconic symbols.

When you see #21, do you think of the hardest-hitting safety to ever play the game, or the gritty running back who carried the load in the ’90s? When you see #44, is it strictly “The Diesel,” or by some chance, are you one of the only living people who think someone else wore it better?

Debates about “Who wore it best?” happen at every tailgate, bar, and Twitter thread. But until now, there hasn’t been a centralized, fan-driven place to settle the score.

Welcome to the HTTR Genealogy: The Living Archive.

We have built a first-of-its-kind, interactive web app designed exclusively for the Burgundy & Gold faithful. It’s not just a list of names; it’s a living history book that you help write. Here is how it works, and how you can help build the ultimate database of Washington legends.

Washington Jersey History

How the Living Archive Works

The HTTR Genealogy app is embedded right here on HTTR4Life.com. It is designed to be the most comprehensive Washington Commanders jersey number database on the web.

1. Search by Number or Name

Curious about the lineage of #17? Type it into the search bar. You won’t just see Terry McLaurin; you’ll see the path that leads back to Doug Williams and Billy Kilmer. You can also search by name to find exactly which numbers your favorite obscure players wore during their tenure.

2. The “Fan Favorite” Vote

This is where the “Living” part of the archive comes in. We don’t just tell you who played; we let the fanbase decide who owns the legacy.

  • Vote for the G.O.A.T.: Next to every player card is a vote button.
  • Real-Time Rankings: The app tracks votes in real-time. If enough fans vote for a specific player, they earn the “Fan Favorite” badge, and their card glows gold at the top of the list.
  • Settling Debates: Is #81 strictly Art Monk territory, or does someone else deserve a nod? The vote bar shows exactly where the fan consensus stands.

3. The Ring of Fame

Want a history lesson? One click gives you access to the Ring of Fame mode, filtering the database to show only the franchise’s certified legends—the Hall of Famers and Ring of Honor inductees who defined our history.

We Need You: How to Make It Better

This app is powered by Firebase technology, meaning it updates instantly. But it is fueled by you. No database starts perfect, and with thousands of players in franchise history, we need the “12th Man” to help us fill in the gaps.

Add Missing Legends

Did we miss a fan favorite from the dark years? Is there an ’80s cult hero who isn’t listed?

  • Click the “+ Add Player” button.
  • Enter their name, number, and era.
  • They are instantly added to the public database for everyone to see and vote on.

Share Your Ballot

Once you’ve cast your vote for the best Washington Redskins #28 or the best Commanders #5, hit the Share button. This lets you blast your choice to X (Twitter) or Facebook, or copy the direct link. The more fans that vote, the more accurate our “Fan Favorite” rankings become.

Gear Up

Looking for that specific vintage look? The app automatically generates smart shopping links.

  • For players active pre-2020, the app generates “Find Vintage Gear” links on eBay, helping you hunt down rare Redskins memorabilia.
  • For modern players, it connects you to the latest Commanders jerseys.

Why This Matters

As the team evolves, preserving our history becomes more important than ever. The HTTR Genealogy project connects the generations. It connects the grandfather who watched Sammy Baugh with the teenager cheering for Jayden Daniels.

It’s time to settle the debates once and for all.

Go to the app. Search for your favorite number. Cast your vote.

Let’s build the greatest jersey archive in the NFL, together.
