Redskins Could Play London Game in 2016

London

According to CSN Washington, sources close to the situation say that the Washington Redskins are under “strong” consideration for a game to be played in London during the 2016 season.

Nothing has been finalized, but the source noted that the league and potential teams are still in negotiations. The Washington Post further reported that the Redskins would be giving up a home game if said scenario plays out.

Redskins Could Play London Game in 2016

The NFL has been playing games in London since 2007. On Wednesday, the NFL owners voted to expand the league’s ability to host games internationally through the 2025 season and broadened the opportunity to contest games in cities other than London.

The Redskins have only played one regular season game outside of the United States in the 83-year history of the team. That game was played in Canada in 2011 against the Buffalo Bills.

Teams that are selected and give up a home game will be compensated by the NFL for any lost revenue. Redskins season ticket holders would only pay for seven regular season games at that point.

The NFL is expected to announce its International Series games for 2016 in the coming weeks.
