Redskins Speak at 2020 NFL Scouting Combine
A lot is riding on the 2020 NFL Draft for the Washington Redskins and their new team management. While several young and talented players already reside on the roster, the Redskins decision-makers have their work cut out for them as the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine continues this weekend.
The Redskins are coming off of one of the worse seasons in the 88-year history of the franchise. The team fired their head coach in week five and showed long-tenured exec Bruce Allen the door as soon as the season ended.
The team moved quickly in hiring former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera to run the team and promoting Kyle Smith to the team’s current top personnel role. This group is ready to turn the Redskins around fast and will look to put their plan in motion once the NFL’s free agency season begins and draft time is here. The phrase Redskins owner Dan Snyder used when introducing Rivera was “coach-centric,” meaning everything runs through Rivera.

This week, Rivera and Smith both answered questions for the media and gave their thoughts on players in the upcoming draft as well as pending free agency. Kyle Smith already sounds like a seasoned GM, even though he’s yet to achieve that title officially.

Rivera is a cool character who has a plan to build Washington’s franchise to be a perennial powerhouse year in and year out. Which is something that has eluded Daniel Snyder over the course of the last 20 years since buying the team. Rivera answered scores of questions and addressed several current Redskins topics, including Trent Williams, the number two draft pick the team currently owns. Rivera also addressed the Brandon Scherff situation, which could force the Redskins to tag the star offensive lineman. The deadline for teams to tag players is March 10th.
