Robert Griffin III finished the regular season throwing for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns and a 102.4 passer rating. Griffin, who was selected to the 2013 Pro Bowl, also became the first player in NFL history with at least four 60+ yard touchdown passes and a 60+ yard rushing touchdown in a season. In Week 11, Griffin’s 158.3 passer rating became the highest mark (min.15 attempts) by a rookie quarterback. Griffin was nominated for Pepsi MAX NFL Rookie of the Week seven times, winning six times.

Alfred Morris led all rookie running backs in yardage. He finished the season with 1,613 yards, second-most in the NFL among all running backs and third-most all-time by a rookie behind Eric Dickerson (1,808) and George Rogers (1,674).

Morris also accounted for 13 touchdowns helping push the Redskins into the playoffs for the first time since 2007. He was nominated for Pepsi MAX NFL Rookie of the Week five times, winning three times.

Redskins win the NFC East for First Time Since 1999

15421 10151410072619574 1358224679 n Redskins win the NFC East for First Time Since 1999The Washington Redskins did something many “experts” never thought they could do, win the NFC East with a rookie quarterback and running back. In a game that will forever go down in Redskins lore, the Redskins controlled the Dallas Cowboys for pretty much the entire game and claimed their 7th win in a row.

The win put the Redskins in the playoffs as the four seed, which means Washington will host the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday in the wild card round.

The Redskins rode Alfred Morris hard in the Sunday Night Football showdown, Morris had 200 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Rookie phenom quarterback Robert Griffin III, looked like he was playing at less than 100% but still had 100 yards passing and 63 yards rushing on 6 carries (rushing TD).

DeAngelo Hall had the game of his career as he held Dez Bryant in check for pretty much the entire game. Bryant had 4 catches for 71 yards and no touchdowns.

The Redskins did what they have down all season long, force turnovers without giving any away themselves. Tony Romo threw three interceptions and extended his horrible ‘win or go home’ game record to 1-5. The Cowboys are now 2-11 in week 17 games since 2000.

After Alfred Morris scored on a 1 yard run, the crowd erupted, singing ‘Hail to the Redskins’. Thankfully, Chris Collinsworth finally found the right time to be quiet! (Video below)

Alfred Morris Needs 104 Yards to Break Clinton Portis’s Rushing Record

397076 10151375412139574 1459790227 n Alfred Morris Needs 104 Yards to Break Clinton Portiss Rushing RecordRedskins rookie running-back Alfred Morris has been on a roll this season. The rookie has already tallied up 1,413 yards this year rushing the ball 302 times for 10 touchdowns. All of those numbers are Redskins records for rookie running backs.

Morris has rushed for 100 yards in three out of the last five games (the other two he rushed for 87 and 91, respectively). The numbers don’t lie as Alfred Morris is 104 yards away from breaking the all-time single season Redskins rushing record, currently held by Clinton Portis with 1,516 yards. Portis has held the record since 2005. Morris will get his shot at the record Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys, a game that will decide the NFC East champion this year.

It’s amazing that with all the backs that have played in the burgundy and gold that Morris is about to become the top rusher, as a rookie.

In the preseason the “experts” all across the board said he wouldn’t ever be a every down running back and that the Redskins offensive line wasn’t good enough to open holes for anyone. The critics now stand quiet with no opinions to give as Morris has exceeded everyone’s expectations.

The soft spoken gentleman continues to be a stable section of the Redskins offense in every game. In any other year, Alfred Morris would be the top name in rookie of the year talks, as it stands he will probably finish 4th this season behind RG3, Andrew Luck and Russel Wilson (in no particular order).

Redskins win 6th Game in a Row….WE WANT DALLAS!!!

london Redskins win 6th Game in a Row....WE WANT DALLAS!!!
The Washington Redskins held on Sunday to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-20 and improve to 9-6 on the year. The game ended on a forward pass that Nick Foles could not get back to the line of scrimmage, which resulted in a ten second runoff for illegal procedure. Being as there was only one second remaining  the game ended.

The Redskins, lead by Ryan Kerrigan’s two sacks and fumble recovery, are the hottest team in the NFC right now. Rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III looked good in his first outing since injuring his right knee against Baltimore two weeks ago. Griffin was 16-24 for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Griffin threw his 5th interception on the year on a tip pass late in the game.

Alfred Morris rushed twenty-one times for 91 yards and also scored his 10th touchdown of the year, which tied him for the Redskins rookie record with Charlie Taylor. Pierre Garcon had 7 catches for 89 yards and Josh Morgan and Santana Moss both scored touchdowns for the Redskins.

With the win, the Redskins have won 6 games in a row and now will face the Dallas Cowboys next week at home, a game with extreme playoff implications. The game will be played on Sunday Night Football (NBC) with the kickoff time being 8:20.

The Redskins will be playing for their first NFC East title since 1999.

Alfred Morris has the Redskins Single Season Rushing Record in Sight

8065132295 0a0383ea6d o Alfred Morris has the Redskins Single Season Rushing Record in SightWith all the attention fellow teammate and rookie Robert Griffin III has received this year it may shock some that Alfred Morris is having one of the best seasons for a running back in Redskins history. The twenty-four year old back who stands 5′ 11 and makes a modest $390,000 a year, has rushed for 1,235 yards in just 13 games this season. The 1,235 yards have him 12th already in all-time single season rushing yards for the Redskins.

With three games remaining Morris is a major threat to former Redskins great Clinton Portis’s record total of 1,516 he set in 2005.

Morris is another in a long line of late round running back gems coach Mike Shanahan has plucked from the NFL draft. Much has been written about how Morris still drives the same car he did in college, a sign that material things are not the number one issue on Alfred’s mind.

Coupled with RG3′s year, the tandem has the Washington Redskins sitting atop the league in team rushing yards this season and has been the nightmare of opposing teams defensive coordinators. Morris has rushed for 100 yards in games six times this year and has accrued 7 touchdowns as well. Teams who focus on Robert Griffin have been stung all year as Morris has been a force to be reckoned with.

The one thing that stands out to me the most with this kid is the fact that the first person will never take him down as he finds a way to break tackles in almost every situation. The kid runs the ball with anger and with purpose. Morris already smashed the Redskins rookie record formerly held by Reggie Brooks.

If Morris can gain 282 yards in the Redskins last three games he will hold the single season rushing record for the Redskins, and as the list below shows, that’s good company to be in!

UPDATED: Sunday, December 16, 2012

Alfred Morris rushed for 87 yards against the Browns on Sunday moving him to 1,322 on the season. That performance moved him up to the 7th best rushing season by a Redskins running back. Morris also scored two touchdowns on Sunday, which gave him the single season touchdown record for a Redskins rookie with 9.

Redskins injury report: RG3 questionable for Sunday | WashingtonExaminer.com
After being limited for a third straight day in practice, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is questionable for Sunday’s game at Cleveland. And he remains a game-time decision.

Redskins Final Thoughts: Week 15 | WashingtonExaminer.com
Can they win with Kirk Cousins? Of course. If they can force Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden to turn the ball over – he has 15 picks – it would help. Also, Browns running back Trent Richardson is not 100 percent and maybe not close to that.

London Fletcher ‘can’t get caught up’ in Cleveland homecoming
“To be going home, it’s always special,” Fletcher said. “Grew up a Browns fans so still like the Browns. But it’s still just another game that we need to win. So I can’t get caught up in any of that.”

ESPN suspends Rob Parker “until further notice” | ProFootballTalk
ESPN has suspended columnist and commentator Rob Parker indefinitely after he said on the air Thursday Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is “black, but he’s not really,” because Griffin is engaged to a white woman. “Rob Parker has been suspended until further notice.

Shanahan: Griffin still a game-time decision vs. Browns (updated)
“He continues to get better,” Shanahan said.  The coach said there still is no decision on Griffin’s status for Sunday’s game at Cleveland. Griffin is officially listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision, Shanahan said.

Redskins-Browns: Five storylines to follow

Alfred Morris’ production – A big day from Alfred Morris will likely be key to Washington’s success regardless of which quarterback plays. The Redskins are 6-1 in games that Morris receives 20 carries or more. Getting him going against Cleveland will take a good deal of playmaking pressure off of the quarterback, and it will set up the play-action attack.

Browns defensive player to watch: CB Joe Haden
Haden, a third-year pro  (Friendly), had six interceptions as a rookie in 2010 and has three more this season despite playing in only eight of the Browns’ 13 games.

Need to Know: Kyle also making two game plans – Rich Tandler’s Real Redskins
“It’s a little bit of a challenge because I can’t lock in as much as I usually do to exactly how to order and what I’m trying to attack. I’ve got to be a little bit more open-minded because there’s a few different directions you could go,” said Shanahan. If Cousins does start the game, the Redskins will be operating out of the same playbook but emphasizing very different plays. Shanahan said that they only average about nine read option plays per game, plays that RG3 excels in running and that Cousins can’t. Those plays will need to be replaced with something else. But taking away the option has ripple effects. “Just the threat of it does help” in setting up other plays, said Shanahan.
